Because we can recycle or reuse these materials well. This way we save raw materials and energy, and reduce greenhouse gases. This is better for the environment. About 80% of plastic packaging is recycled, 90% of metal packaging. Beverage cartons are 85% recycled. We want to increase that percentage further.

For every product you buy in plastic, metal (can) or beverage packaging, you pay a small fee. With this we enable the packaging manufacturers to provide recycling. They thus compensate the municipalities that organize collection together with the waste managers. However, the packaging manufacturers are not responsible for recycling other materials. Hence, only packaging is collected.

Yes, it definitely makes sense! By increasing the reuse of raw materials and reducing residual waste, you make a great contribution to the environment. Reusing raw materials ensures that we use fewer primary resources (such as petroleum). And by burning less residual waste, less CO2 is emitted.

No, that's not necessary. But make sure they are empty.

Is pmd collected at your house? Then use the special, transparent pmd bags.
Do you use an orange container for pmd? Preferably do not use bags and put pmd directly in the container. Would you still like to collect pmd in a plastic bag? Then use transparent pedal bin bags. You can buy these at most supermarkets.
The reason? During collection and transfer, visual inspection takes place: does the waste really consist of pmd? In the factory, too, checks take place at the beginning of the sorting process. Opaque bags make inspection difficult and time-consuming.

This is indeed true. These include, for example, black trays (used for meat products) and potato chip bags. Solutions are being sought for the proper disposal of these types of plastic packaging. But these are not in sight in the short term. As joint waste management companies, we also focus on producers: we believe they should take recyclability more into account when designing packaging. In this way, we want to prevent packaging coming onto the market that is not suitable for recycling.

Of all the pmd that is now processed, about three-quarters is reused. Half of that is used again for new packaging. The other half can no longer be used for new packaging, but can be used for street furniture such as benches and bollards. The goal is to reuse 90% of pmd, and also to increase the percentage that can be used for packaging. The best is when we manage to close the cycle: packaging becomes packaging again. That is what we aim for with the circular economy, in which the Netherlands could become a leader.

Cans filled with kitchen waste cause pmd contamination. It also cannot be taken out on the sorting belt. Advice is to use a kitchen waste bin instead.
